In membrane related drug discovery, electrophysiology is one of the central areas of research. In the past, the standard technological approach has primarily consisted of the various alterations of patch clamping of membranes and cells. However, certain limitations of this principle have become obvious over the years. Specifically with regards to flexibility, throughput, user-friendliness, and information content electrophysiologist kept being the proverbial leap behind their colleagues working on other target groups.

Ionovation has brought an alternative approach to routine applicability. Membrane bilayer studies have been a powerful, however hard to command tool for a few experts in the past 20 years. With a lot of experience from all fields of electrophysiology and fluorescence spectroscopy and by introducing innovative ideas the Ionovation scientists have turned this methodology into a ready-to-use tool for many fields of membrane and electrophysiology research.

With Ionovation´s bilayer approach electrical and optical events can be monitored simultaneously - for the first time. Binding events can be directly correlated to electric currents across the membrane. A new quality in data content.
