Designed to provide maximum functionality in the smallest possible footprint, the Ionovation Bilayer Explorer occupies minimal space and delivers maximum results. With a slim profile, the system fits all inverted microscopes with Märzhäuser xy-stages and can easily be adapted to others.

Lifting the shielding lid of the Ionovation Bilayer Explorer reveals a fully automated liquid handling and perfusion unit that can easily be removed allowing fast access to the sample area. The pre-amplifing headstage and the Ag/AgCl-electrodes are conveniently housed under the lid which guarantees fast and accurate bilayer recordings.

Using Ionovation’s patented low volume Bilayer Slide gives direct microscopy access to the automatically produced and validated bilayer.

With the compact and clearly laid out control unit, which houses power supply, pump module and logic controller, the user has everything necessary for data entry and experiment control.

Precise liquid handling is performed by two independently addressable syringe pumps and a double channel, low pulsation 8-roller head peristaltic pump securing fast buffer exchange and bilayer production.

Remote experiment control of the Ionovation Bilayer Explorer and dedicated software access is provided by HEKA’s Patchmaster Software, designed to streamline and simplify the data acquisition process with HEKA’s high end EPC 10 amplifier.
